Please take note and follow the advice below to ensure that your True Woodwork piece can become a family heirloom.
- We do not recommend that you use your True Woodwork board as a surface for cutting raw meat.
- After using the board, we recommend that you use a damp cloth, paper towel or sponge to clean the surface of the board and wipe it dry immediately thereafter.
- Do not place or leave the board in standing water. Do not clean the board in the dishwasher.
- We advise that you use only food grade mineral oil to treat and moisturize your board periodically.
- Do not use regular cooking oils (for example nut, sunflower, corn, olive, coconut, rapeseed ) to moisturize your board. These oils become rancid when exposed to air and your board will eventually smell unpleasant. Grapeseed oil, however, can be used.
- If your board does start to emit a scent, you may need to disinfect your board. Take half of a lemon and rub it all over the surface of your board. The bacteria will be neutralized by the ascorbic acid in the lemon juice. The lemon oils will also help with the cleaning process. A small amount of diluted bleach solution can also be used. Be sure to wipe dry after applying as the water will affect the grain of the board.
- Do not use alcohol or household cleaners to disinfect your board, even if it is listed as organic. These are toxic to humans.
